Last year, our team embarked on a project for our client, Vinamilk, involving the creation of an educational video that seamlessly blended live shooting with captivating 3D animation. 
 
 
In the live shoot component, meticulous planning took center stage. Preparations were thorough, involving a comprehensive previs stage and a day of rehearsals just prior to the main on-set shoot.

Utilising the Blackmagic 12K camera proved instrumental, preserving intricate details essential for meeting client specifications, which demanded both horizontal and vertical versions of the video. The camera’s prowess also facilitated keying and roto work during the post-production phase.
 
 

Onset

 
 
All scenes were shot against a green screen, allowing for the creation of intricate 3D sets during post-production.
 
 

 
 
The creation of a 3D city set posed a unique challenge, as it needed to resemble an internal city within the stomach. The road’s design mirrored the shape of the intestine, and soft, glossy shaders were applied. Opting for the cycles rendering engine, despite the extended rendering time of 20 minutes per frame, proved crucial in achieving the desired visual impact.

The 3D animation segment aimed at captivating a younger audience with a cute aesthetic. Character design and animation were crafted to align with the project’s educational focus for children.

Adding numerous characters to the 3D scenes presented another hurdle. While crowd simulation is a common VFX technique, our animators took a hands-on approach, manually integrating characters into the scenes. Despite the challenges, the team’s dedication and hard work ultimately yielded exceptional results.
