Vinamilk SuSu Guardians of the universe TVC

 

What do you think is the art style of this TVC?

 

2D? No. 3D? Not really. It’s both!

 

We have received a very special brief from our client Vinamilk, via TBWA agency, that was making an animated TVC (and series in the future) different from anything made before.

 

Our client wanted their TVC to be made in “anime” (Japanese animated movie) style, so we decided to use the Cel-shading technique for this time. Cel-shading is used widely in the animated movie and game industry all over the world, which brings the ultimate visual experience to 2D animation lovers. So, a “yes” from our client was a really big move when they were willing to take the risk of making something brand new in Vietnamese’s advertising field, and Colory has a chance to accomplish one of the toughest challenges in our journey.

SuSu heroes

 

We modeled SuSu heroes using the 3D Cel-shading technique based on the agency’s original design. The look of these characters needs to be kept in “anime” style, but more attractive to the young audience.

Besides, our modeling artists had to shade and draw “black lines” for these characters by hand to make them look like they are all painted on paper.

We also used NPR (Non-Photorealistic Rendering) technique to make the character look 2D from any angle.

Building the SuSu universe

 

The SuSu universe was built including many interesting elements like the “milky way” to planet SuSu is actually a milk flow, or planets around are vitamins. It took our artist many hours to simulate the milk flow for the most realistic feel.

 

 

The planet SuSu has a chocolate waterfall that flows non-stop, mountains of fresh and juicy fruit.

 

 

We had to work with high working speed and the highest concentration to be able to complete this project. Colory wants to thank all artists for spending their time working on weekends, holidays. In order to get the job done, you have really fought like SuSu heroes.
