Final Title: Sự Tích Tết Trung Thu

When an online fairy tale becomes a lovely animated short.

This story is written by a mom named Hồ Minh Trang, first time posted on Webtretho in 2012. Con Cung team, however, fall in love with this meaningful story. They decide to turn it to an animated short. Then, they contact Colory.

The story is written in literature style. In order to make a short film, first we need to rewrite this tale into screenplay format with pacing, build-up and cinematic feel. Working closely with Con Cung team to get the right feeling of the film, we have a screenplay of 6 pages – equal to 6 minutes on film.

This leads to other problems: cost and time. With coordination and trust from client, Colory come up with a solution to cut down the cost. By balancing level of detail in a scene with the story, we save about 40% cost and finish the film two times faster yet still keep the good quality.

However, the plan is still a little bit “impossible” for execution. By focusing 100% on the project and thanks to a big support from the artists at Colory, we are able to to finish the final product in just one hour before the deadline (and before our director jump on the airplane for a business trip, which he canceled his ticket once before. “Yeah, I know, a bit drama here… but that was fun part of the job” – said by author).

Even though the short film is not perfect, seeing the audience watch it, feel it, some even cry, we cannot be happier.
