VR or Virtual Reality is becoming a trend recently. Smelling that trend, Diana – a Japanese brand – approach Colory for a 360 degree viral video, in order to promote their new product. The experience of watching a 360 VR video is very different from watching a traditional one. Therefore, to create it, we also have to adapt and apply a completely new production pipeline.
Basically, nothing can be hidden in 360 viewing perspective. The audience can see from the in front, behind, above or below at anytime they want. Instead of polish only the part in front of camera view, we need to make everything all around the camera looks good, and maintain it throughout the length of the film. Another thing to learn is that in order to bring a good viewing experience, a 360 degree video cannot have many cuts. In other words, the whole clip is one-take shot. If there are any small mistakes, it will definitely be caught on the camera. We will do the whole take again and again until everything looks great.
